Corneal transplantation was performed for the first time in our patient with the 'deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty' (DALK) method known as 'half layer' and 'closed corneal transplantation' in our hospital.
Another first in the Eastern Anatolia Region was achieved with the successful operation carried out in our Hospital, which serves approximately 2.5 million people from Van and surrounding provinces. The number of operations is increasing day by day in our hospital, which has been providing transportation services to patients who need corneal transplantation for about 2 years, within the scope of Eye Bank. Until now, we used to perform a 'full thickness' corneal transplant, which we call 'penetrating keratoplasty'. Pointing out that the difficult operation, which was performed for the first time in the Eastern Anatolia Region, has advantages such as high visual acuity as well as rapid recovery, Op. Although it is a difficult surgical technique, it is an advantageous method in terms of faster recovery in patients, less surgical complications, higher visual acuity, and no need for lifelong drug use.
