ACADEMIC BIOGRAPHY

Associate Professor Remzi Sarıkaya, MD, is a cardiologist and healthcare executive currently serving as Chief Physician of SBÜ Van Training and Research Hospital, one of the largest tertiary referral centers in Eastern Türkiye.

He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Medicine in 2011 and subsequently completed his residency training in Cardiology at the Department of Cardiology, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, Istanbul University, between 2012 and 2016. Following completion of his specialty training, he joined the Department of Cardiology at SBÜ Van Training and Research Hospital, where he has been actively involved in both clinical and academic practice since 2016.

Dr. Sarıkaya served as Deputy Chief Physician between 2019 and 2022 and was appointed Chief Physician in 2022 after attaining the academic title of Associate Professor of Cardiology. He currently holds concurrent responsibilities as Chief Physician, Consultant Cardiologist, and Director of Cardiology Training.

His clinical expertise encompasses interventional cardiology, complex coronary interventions including chronic total occlusion (CTO) procedures, coronary artery disease, heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, echocardiography, preventive cardiology, and cardiovascular imaging. His academic interests further extend to cardiovascular risk stratification, clinical outcomes research, artificial intelligence applications in cardiovascular medicine, and healthcare management.

Throughout his career, Dr. Sarıkaya has played a pivotal role in the development and expansion of advanced cardiovascular services within his institution. He has contributed significantly to the establishment of the regional Heart Center and has been actively involved in the implementation of multiple clinical, educational, and healthcare quality improvement initiatives.

Dr. Sarıkaya has authored and co-authored more than fifty peer-reviewed scientific publications in national and international journals. His research has focused on interventional cardiology, cardiovascular imaging, coronary physiology, heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, machine learning–based risk prediction models, and contemporary cardiovascular outcomes.

He is an active member of the Turkish Society of Cardiology and the European Society of Cardiology and regularly participates in national and international scientific meetings as an investigator, speaker, moderator, and scientific contributor.
